Department Vision:
Greenridgeans are equipped with a strong foundation of their Mother Tongue language and are passionate in learning of their own ethnic culture.
Departmental Goals :
- To inspire in pupils a love for the Mother Tongue language and culture.
- To enable Greenridgeans to communicate in their own ethnic language confidently and effectively
- To achieve value-added results in Mother Tongue languages.
- To provide opportunities for the professional development of the teachers.

It has been an annual activity that the Mother Tongue Department organizes a Chinese New Year Concert to celebrate the festival and promote the value of the Chinese customs and traditions. An Inter-class Chinese New Year Classroom Decoration Competition was also organised to provide opportunities for the classroom to bond as a team and promote racial harmony. To enhance the spirit of sharing and impart the value of empathy, the department has also organised the Hamper Design Competitions. All hampers were then donated to the needy homes and charity organizations.

Malay Language
Basic Conversational Malay
The Basic Conversational Malay module is in line with MOE’s initiative to encourage students to learn the language and culture of other races. This workshop is open to Lower Secondary level students who are strongly encouraged to sign up for the programme. Students are taught basic Malay conversation and they are introduced to the different aspects of the Malay culture.
Examination Preparation Workshop
This workshop aims to equip students with the skills to answer examination questions. The workshop is targeted at all Lower Secondary Level students. This two-day workshop was conducted during the September school holidays in the school library. The main focus was to introduce to the students to answer strategies narrative and descriptive essay questions. The delivery of concepts and theory to the students was enhanced through the use of audio-visual effects (AVA & Powerpoint Presentation, Flash Animation).
