SCHOOL DISCIPLINE
Our Motto
Discipline With Care
The Shared Vision
Pupils will grow and learn better when they feel cared for and loved
The school takes a proactive approach to help students develop values in discipline. We set clear expectations to correct unacceptable behaviour.
We provide opportunity for students to help one another and hence develop a positive and caring school climate.
The school discipline programme is designed to develop a conducive learning environment where every student is able to distinguish between what is right and wrong and accept responsibility for his or her behaviour.
Management of Pupils in Greenridge Secondary School
In Greenridge, a monitoring system has been developed to help alert teachers of the early signs of student misbehavior and to track the development of individual students. The school provides timely intervention and support to reduce attrition in school.
The school works in line with the Ministry of Education to introduce measures to engage students who are at risk of dropping out remain in school. We provide support and resources to help students attain at least 10 years of education so that they can get a post-secondary education to maximise their potential and have the best chance of succeeding in life.
Discipline Programmes
STEP-UP PROGRAMME
The programme aims to build the resilience of the pupils through development of self esteem and awareness, emotional and social competence. Our school has embarked on the Step–up Programme in 2008. It provides at-risk students and their families with assistance from school. It aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and keep potential drop-outs in school. The programme helps at risk students from Secondary 2 and 3 to effect a long-term positive change in their attitude and self-esteem. STEP-UP programmes are aimed specifically at supporting teachers in managing anti-social behaviour among students, empowering parents to better support their children, and reducing the number of out-of-school youth and juvenile offenders.
Time-Out Programme
This programme has been in place since 2010 for unmotivated students. We focus our efforts on students who are at a higher risk of attrition or may have issue with peer relationships, attendance, motivation, family and emotional management.
To help these students, they go through a Time-Out Programme. Time-Out involves removing students from the classroom. Its a positive technique to be used instead of reprimanding and punishing a student who has misbehaved. The programme encourage and help the students to believe in themselves and try new skills to manage their time and problems better. Students are selected for the Time-Out Programme based on teacher recommendations.
RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PROGARMMe
The goal of discipline in school is the development of self-discipline in student. Student need to be taught responsible for their choice and actions. Student learn that there are consequences for their actions and the choice of action is within their control.
The Responsible Thinking Discipline programme creates mutual respect by teaching students how to think through what they are doing in relation to the classroom rules.
When pupils are breaking rules or there are disruptions in class, teacher teaches the students an effective process for resolving their issues in a calm and respectful atmosphere.
NEIGBOURHOOD YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (NYDP)
It is a Community Safety & Security Programme initiated by Bukit Panjang Neighbourhood Police Center. The programme aims to help students recognise the seriousness and consequences of his/her act and to acquire life skills and self-control. It is a multi-faceted approach, in partnership with the school to manage students who are beyond parental control, have committed crime or drifted into street gangs.
PARENT CONFERENCE
It is an opportunity for the school to work with parents in a cooperative relationship to help motivate student to learn, motivate their behaviour and attitude. It may also involve planning another learning path for the student if there is a loss of interest in academic studies. The student is involved in the discussion. We help the student to reflect on his/her routine activities which may have a bearing on the discipline / academic studies issue, focus on the problem which is identified and put parent and student at ease to express their concern, assess and solve the problem.
COUNSELLING & MONITORING
The school monitors attendance closely. The Biometric System monitors the attendance of the students. The form teachers work with parents and keep updated data on the status of the attendance of students. excessive or prolonged absence from school and behavioured problems can make a student more likely to leave school prematurely or fail his/her examinations. Students are sent to the Full Time School Counsellor for counseling. The Principal, Vice-Principal, Discipline Master, Level Discipline Coordinators and Form teachers also work with parents in monitoring the attendance and behavioral issues of the student.
